Finding Nemo begins with tragedy—Marlin, a clownfish, loses his wife and hundreds of eggs in a barracuda attack, leaving him overly protective of his only surviving son, Nemo. Despite Marlin's caution, Nemo is full of adventure and eager to explore the world beyond their reef. During a school trip, Nemo disobeys his dad and is captured by a diver, ending up in a dentist's fish tank in Sydney.
Driven by love and fear, Marlin sets out on a cross-ocean adventure to find Nemo. Along the way, he meets Dory, a forgetful yet cheerful fish who challenges his worldview. Their perilous journey takes them through jellyfish fields, the belly of a whale, and a shark support group. Meanwhile, Nemo plots his own escape from the tank with a group of quirky aquarium fish.
Ultimately, father and son are reunited—not just physically, but emotionally, as Marlin learns to trust and let go, and Nemo proves he's capable of great things.
For younger kids, the movie's vibrant underwater world, playful sea creatures, and humor (like Dory's forgetfulness) are immediately engaging. Older children can appreciate the emotional journey of both Marlin and Nemo. It gently introduces ideas of grief, independence, and problem-solving in a way that feels encouraging and safe.
